12 Egyptian Living Room Decorating Ideas

1. Go Hard (And Go Home)

via Pinterest

We will be very blunt: this might be the most over-the-top look we've ever seen in a home featuring Egyptian decoration. This red and tan ensemble is amazing in terms of appearance, but obviously took a lot of extra work to make happen. The treasure chest and the pyramid accents are cute, sure, but the walls? Well, that's going to cost a pretty penny.

The walls in this home are not made from posters. That's a legitimate paneling job that has 3D features. That's not going to be an easy thing to handle. If you have a landlord, this probably is going to be out of the question. Still, it's really impressive.

2. Feeling Blue

via Pdoshka.ru

Gold is definitely the name of the game when it comes to Egyptian decor. That's one of the key colors of this aesthetic. However, what colors you pair with the gold can vary. This room decided to keep things modern by adding Berlin blue to the walls. This gave the room a look that's both European and Egyptian—a fusion vibe we adore.

The trick to making this look good is to add a greyish blue to the wall color. It helps balance out the look of bold colors like gold, but still keeps that exotic look to it. Think of this blue paint as "bluetral."

3. Say It With Paint

via Amazon.in

If you feel like Egyptian decorations tend to look a little bit overkill in a typical room, you're not alone. It can be pretty tacky to see a bunch of poorly-made plastic pyramids in a small apartment. This is why this designer decided to make things even more modern with a heavy focus on modern furniture.

Grey carpeting with a yellow couch is a bold (yet still Egyptian) look. What really sells the Egyptian vibe is the portrait of Bastet (the cat goddess) at the top of the sofa. It looks modern and elegant, but still gives a careful nod to the theme.

4. 1920s Art Deco

via Decoration Solutions

Most people forget this, but the Art Deco movement of the 1920s was heavily influenced by Egyptian decoration. This was an era where people tended to delve into anything exotic and mysterious. With all the discoveries being made in Egypt, it was a natural partnership. To get this look, blend clean lines with subtle Egyptian accents.

This designer decided to play up the Egyptian aspect of this with gold accents as well as a full-scale mural on the side of the wall. To add an Art Deco twist, they kept the lines clean and added vintage chairs.

5. Keepin' It Real

via Pinterest

If there is one thing that is hard to nail down with a decorative style modeled after an ancient civilization, it's realism. One thing that many historians have noted is that Egyptians were big fans of gold as well as brassy reds. They also were fans of using linens as a way to add a decorative touch to rooms. The same could be said about candles and ferns.

The person who put together this room had a keen eye for authenticity. They used all those elements to bring things back to the days of pharoahs, animal-human gods, and trips on the Nile. With that said, it's still modern. We're pretty sure the ancient Egyptians didn't have electrical lamps.

6. Carving Out Your Own Style

via Egypt Streets

While most of us tend to think of Egyptian decor as a theme that is all about pharoahs and cats, the truth is that modern Egyptian decor is also impeccable and worth consideration. This living room offers rounded, cushiony chairs alongside rich wooden carved accents. This look is incredibly popular in Egypt.

If you want to get a good taste of Egyptian decor, get wooden carvings that have a Morrocan-style pattern to them. This strong focus on darker woods paired with lighter colors is bold, exotic, and destined to please.

7. Mirror, Mirror

via Pinterest

Another modern Egyptian design concept that's sweeping the world is the heavy use of mirrors and geometric lines. Here, we see a lot of exotic twists to this look. Wall to ceiling mirroring, traditional Arabic seating, and a strong touch of both gold and dark wood make it a pretty impressive looking room.

Of course, there is an architectural element that helps bring out the Egyptian element to this home. After all, there are few things that are as Egyptian as tall columns. With that said, many people might find this to have a strong 80s feel to it.

8. Va, Va Vintage

via CNN

Believe it or not, there is a booming industry relating to hotel design in Egypt. It's been booming since the earlier part of last century, which means that there are dozens of hotels that were made in hyper-ornate styles featuring Egyptian elements dating back to the 1930s. The photo above is an example of this in action.

This is an Egyptian style that blended Victorian glamour (the chairs, painting, and darker woods) with classic Egyptian elements. Adding blue, gold, and white marble flooring helped bring out the Egyptian side of things too. It's amazing what a quick splash of color can do for the mood of a room, isn't it?

9. Ooh, Subtle!

via ASVO

So far, we've seen a lot of living rooms that take the Egyptian look to an extreme. It can be a bit much, even when you have a bigger apartment and decorating budget. Sometimes, you just need to work with a vibe that is subtle. Here, we see a room that has a papyrus-look divider that lines the wall. It's Egyptian, as are the gold accents on the table.

However, that's really the only thing that gives this place a serious nod to this style. Everything else is modern, almost Scandinavian, and gorgeous. This gives the room an open, airy feeling that will make your home feel like an oasis against the rigors of the world.

10. Bedding Like A Bedouin

via Manutd.ru

Bedouin tribes are found throughout the Egypt area, and boy, do they have a sense of style! This smoking tent is done up in a traditional Bedouin-style featuring chaise loungers, massive tufted Ottomans, throw rugs, and ample pillows everywhere you look. Saying that this is a luxurious look is an understatement. It's downright decadent.

Admittedly, the rich reds and burgundies helped add to the luxurious feeling of this place. Everything also felt so open and airy, despite the darker hues. We can safely assume that people would love to lounge away the day and night in a place like this.

11. Going All The Way With It

via Pinterest

If you want to go for an Egyptian living room that truly looks the part, then you might as well go all the way with it. This home has some gorgeous Egyptian-style benches, an Arabic coffee table, beautiful wooden flooring, gorgeous wall accents that immediately make people feel like they're in an exotic land. The look of this home is incredibly well-compiled.

The important thing to remember when putting together an Egyptian living room is that you have to take other parts of your home into account. A single room that resembles an ancient Egyptian home may appear to be jarring to the people in it. So, make sure you can make your style flow from room to room.

12. Doing It With Decals

via Nitem Path

Decals often get a bad rap in the world of interior design, but they really shouldn't. This designer was able to turn an otherwise modern (possibly even Asian-inspired) living room into an Egyptian-themed hot spot perfect for entertaining guests. Of course, we can't ignore the fact that they also added lots of creams and browns into this room's design—both colors famous for being in Egyptian decor.

The decal itself is a bold way to add an Egyptian touch to an apartment that can't be painted or wallpapered up. Since decals are temporary, this remains an affordable way to get your theme on without getting your landlords upset. As long as you choose the right accessories, there's no reason why you can't reap the rewards of this pretty theme for your living room.
